Nona’s Poem
By
Skylar Barger
He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart…”
Ecclesiastes 3:11
~
He formed man from the dust of the ground,
And cradled him tenderly in His palm
Fragile body made of clay
There, still, quiet and lifeless he lay.
A hollow body
The sculpting is complete
Every joint connected
from his skull to his feet.
He drew a breath
from His own lungs
and breathed life into the body
The Breath of life; it was His own.
Dust to dust;
ash to ashes
This temple for our souls,
though preciously crafted,
Is sleeping now
but not for long
For when Christ returns
Body, soul and spirit will again be one.
~
Life is but a vapor
when  compared
with earth’s dingy pleasures
And Heaven’s glory to spare,
Our fragile bodies
tend to run dry
We carrying our heartaches,
are burdened through life.
When we draw our last breath
He is standing right there
Like in the beginning
When he purposed our lives here.
Dust to dust;
ash to ashes
This temple for our souls,
though preciously crafted,
Is sleeping now
But not for long
For when Christ returns
Body, soul and spirit will again be one.
~
To be with Jesus is to be free
Imagine being consumed by His radiating peace.
And think of it- we will finally be full
We will finally understand His Love;
We will be whole.
May the reality of Heaven
be illuminated in my heart
So that this journey on earth
Won’t be tainted by the dark,
For I know Dust to dust;
And ash to ashes
This temple for our souls,
though preciously crafted
Is temporal and passing
Yet our spirit within
is ever longing
for eternity to begin.
~
It is the spirit inside
That longs to be Home
and now can rest
enveloped in the loving arms of God.
~
We share a similar heartbeat with God
For He is the one who put eternity in our hearts.
So voyage on ever stronger
Be a soldier for truth
Be a vessel of His love
to a world bleeding and bruised.
This life is but a vapor
But eternity awaits
Carry the heart of Christ within you
So that the world might be saved.
~

  1. Dearest Skyler, this is the most beautiful poem I have ever read! And so true. Nona is with Jesus, where all of us that know Him long to be. But while we are here on this earth, we are to love the unloveable, and show all His love. So that one day all will be able to see Jesus, as Nona is now! Thank you! I love you,
