Ode à la Crocus

Ode à la Crocus

First sign of spring!

Cheery face greets the morning.

Burmel earth fought against quite forcefully

But dear crocus, despite restraint,  prevailed in glory.

Open yawn, breathing deep

Welcoming tender kiss from the sun

She relishes the warmth alone, while all the world  is still asleep.

The ground is riveting with life beneath

I wait impatiently with rigid expectancy

One by one they make their appearance

Some purple, some blond

Then my favorite, the striped ones.

Short lived they may be, but love plenty the receive

Once gone, I am grieved but the fleurs which follow

Bestow joy, and sweetness abundantly.
